C100: PRINCIPLES IN LAND ACQUISITION – 16 HRS
Introduces the seven major right-of-way disciplines associated with the acquisition of property rights for public and private projects. Includes: engineering/survey, appraisal, acquisition/negotiations, law relocation assistance, environment and property management.
C102: RAISING YOUR ETHICAL AWARENESS – 8 HRS
A combination of lecture and experiential learning exercises as a means of exchanging ideas and practical solutions for understanding and resolving ethical conflicts. Further discussions include: IRWA’s Code of Ethics; the Ethics Committee, ethical rules; professionalism; ethics in everyday life, Procedures on disciplinary action, complaints and investigation committees.
C200: PRINCIPLES OF REAL ESTATE NEGOTIATION - 16 HRS
This course presents a unique blend of the communication skills associated with successful, real-world right of way negotiations. Topics include: Negotiations Styles; Creating your own individual negotiation style; The Negotiation Process, Using Power in Negotiations; Common issues, tactics and pitfalls in negotiations.
C201: COMMUNICATIONS IN REAL ESTATE ACQUISITION – 24 HRS
This course presents the skills needed to win at problem solving negotiations through a unique blend of lecture, exercises and role playing. Topics include: Effective communication’ Developing healthy interpersonal relationships; Barriers to acquisition between agent and owner; The Art of Listening and Developing Probing Questions.
C205: BARGAINING NEGOTIATIONS – 16 HRS
This course explores the skills required to win at bargaining negotiations as opposed to problem solving negotiations. Topics include: Steps in bargaining negotiations; Analysis of the situation; Skills and attitudes of successful bargainers; Making the initial offer; granting and securing concessions.
C209: NEGOTIATIONING EFFECTIVELY WITH A DIVERSE CLIENTELE – 16 HRS
At every border of our lives, we are surrounded with a myriad of cultures, differences, challenges, and interests. How can we successfully identify and communicate with our neighbors, create strong teams in the workplace, negotiate to win-win outcomes? The answer to this plaguing question lies in the context of this intriguing course. Topics include: A foundation for Intercultural Negotiation; Intercultural Communication; BUilding Cross-Cultural Relationships, Intercultural Competence, etc.
C213: CONFLICT MANAGEMENT – 8 HRS
Effective Conflict Management can open doors to healthier workplace relationships and more productive working relationships with property owners and the general public. This course presents specific methods for dealing with conflict that can minimize negative aspects of conflict while maximizing benefits of conflict situations and how best to cope with criticism.
C219: INTRODUCTION TO PRESENTATION, FACILITATION AND INSTRUCTION - 16 HRS
This course provides participants with an understanding of presenting, instructing and facilitating; an opportunity to develop or enhance presentation, instruction and facilitation skills; personal and professional development, and a venue during which to assess personal skills and abilities before expressing an interest in becoming an IRWA Facilitator or a Conference presenter. At the conclusion of the course, participants will have learned about, developed, and demonstrated presentation, instruction and facilitation techniques.
The CLIMB, Instructor Development – 16 HRS
The CLIMB is designed specifically for those individuals interested in becoming an Instructor for the IRWA. This course will assist potential instructors to develop provocative instructional skills & adult learning techniques which are essential to aspire to becoing a reflective practitioner and engaging trainer
